Oily Skin First let talk about oily skin' Are you prone to shine? Does your foundation tend to slip off your face come 3pm? Then you have a typically oily skin type. You may have been fooled into believing that foundations will clog your pores and aggravate your complexion, however this isn't the case if you choose a foundation suited to oily skin. A matte finish foundation is going to be best for you as it will absorb the moisture and keep the shine at bay. Opt for a foundation that is long wearing but says 'matte finish' or 'for oily skin types'. Another good tip if you are super oily is to go for a powder foundation rather than a liquid or mousse. Powder foundations are great for soaking up all the moisture throughout the day and keep your skin looking flawless. Some of our favourites on site are; Maybelline Fit Me Anti-Shine Foundation Stick ' this one has an anti-shine core that is enriched with powders to instantly absorb shine. Revlon Colorstay 24H Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin ' perfect for oily skin as it has a really light texture that will glide over the skin but also stay put for hours. Collection Ultimate Fix Compact Foundation ' this foundation is a 3 in 1 formula that provides the coverage of a liquid but in powder form.
Dry Skin Dry skin can really have a problem with foundations if you don't pick the correct formula. The wrong type of foundation will cling to dry patches and aggravate the area, making the problem even worse (not to mention making you look like a flaky mess!) When trying to choose a foundation for dry skin you need to look for ingredients that help draw moisture into the skin ' hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and glycerin help lock in moisture for a dewy glow. With dry skin prepping beforehand is an essential step, you need to make sure you moisturise and use a hydrating primer before even thinking about applying foundation! The best foundations for dry skin will mostly have a dewy finish; they lock in moisture and keep the skin hydrated throughout the day. Best to avoid any powder formulas as they will just suck up any limited moisture left in the skin surface. Tinted moisturisers are great for those with dry skin as they will help keep the skin healthy and glowing. The foundations we would recommend are: Natio Cosmetics Tinted Moisturiser ' it has a nice satin finish, so if you prefer not to be too dewy this one will be perfect. Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich Foundation ' does exactly what it says on the tin, best if you like medium/full coverage. Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation ' the formula of this foundation is perfect if you have dry skin as it allows your skin to breathe whilst also giving a hit of hydration.
Acne-Prone Skin If you suffer from acne it can be really difficult to find a foundation to suit your skin. You need one that doesn't clog your pores, leave your spots looking worse than they are or irritate any problem areas on your face. You need to look for formulas that are oil free or mineral based, they will help treat the problem as well as covering seamlessly. Also look for an ingredient called salicylic acid as it's amazing at helping to clear any blemishes! Just remember great skin comes from within so make sure you pack your diet full of those vitamins to help keep your skin clear, get plenty of sleep (on a clean pillow) and avoid touching your face as much as possible. The foundations we love are: Covermark Foundation ' it's a full coverage foundation that will make any blemishes instantly disappear but also don't irritate the skin. Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Liquid Foundation ' this is a lightweight gel texture that provides all day coverage but also prevents any oil breakouts and helps troublesome areas. Artdeco Long Lasting Foundation Oil Free ' this foundation is great for keeping skin oil free but also has essential vitamin E which counteracts any dehydration.
Mature Skin Mature skin has its own set of concerns; the skin's production of sebum begins to slow down which can cause the skin to dry out and fine lines and wrinkles to become more pronounced. Aging skin can be prone to dryness, but with changing shifts in hormones it can also become red and irritated too. The joys! You'll probably find your old faithful foundation just isn't doing it for you anymore, so now's the time for an upgrade. You want a formula that will leave skin looking even, glowing and wrinkle free (in an ideal world), luckily there are some formulas that moisturise but also offer all day coverage. In a nut shell you want a foundation that offers a light dewy finish, hydration and long lasting powers! We love: Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation ' this foundation is great at balancing the skin and giving you a flawless finish, but it also feels really light on the skin so you don't look cakey. Olay Total Effects Pore Minimizer CC Cream ' this is a really lightweight formula that diminishes the look of pores and smooths fine lines and wrinkles for a fresh and even complexion. Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation ' this foundation wakens up the skin and leave a healthy and radiant glow, it also eliminates fatigue with peptides that increase elasticity.
We really hope this guide helps those of you who struggle to find a foundation that works with your skin and leaves you looking flawless! The key is to figure out where you sit on the skin type scale and cater specifically to those needs to keep you looking at your best.
