It can be easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to makeup, defaulting to a set few products for daywear or nights outs. But makeup should be about expressing yourself, getting creative and exploring new trends. If you’ve got a date night coming up, don’t throw on the same trusted lippy and liner combo - branch out and try a new look that makes you feel like the glamazon you are. Not feeling inspired? Browse a line-up of some of our favourite simple date night makeup looks.

#1. Sculpted Glow

This look is all about defining your face, accentuating your best features and adding a little bit of glow. Start by prepping your skin by double cleansing and moisturising; this will give you a fresh canvas to work with. Next, apply your favourite foundation or BB cream to even out your skin tone and give you a natural-looking base. Dot on a concealer to cover any blemishes or dark circles.

Once you’ve set your makeup with a light dusting of powder, it’s time to add some glow! Unlike contouring, which sculpts by creating shadow, you’ll use a liquid highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, and in the inner corners of your eyes. This technique will give you a gorgeous, dewy finish and is such an easy look to achieve on a weekday date night.

#2. Peach Punch

If you’re looking for a fresh and pretty date night look, this peachy keen look is perfect for you. This season, peach blush is a must-try look and adds a cute, flirty touch to a paired back makeup look.

Use a peachy blush on the apples of your cheeks, then swipe the colour in a “C” shape up toward your temples. This application technique gives the impression of lift, elevating your blush to the next level. When choosing a lipstick,  opt for a similar shade, or keep it simple with a nude that complements your skin tone. Add some mascara to your top lashes, and you’re good to go!

#3. Smoky Eye

The smoky eye will always be a winner if you’re looking for a dramatic date night makeup look, but it's not always easy to get right.

For flawless smoky eyes, start your shadow before the rest of your makeup to avoid the inevitable fallout of dark pigment on your cheeks. Apply the eyeshadow to your lids, working it into the crease of your eyelid and blending out, adding a lighter shade to the area under your brow to highlight and lift your eye. Next, use a black liner to create the perfect wing and finish with a generous coat of mascara

Is the smoky eye your go-to look? Want to try something a little different? Create the same look but use deep purple, bronze or grey tones for a new take on a classic.

#4. Metallic Accents

Who says metallic makeup is only for the festive season? Not the catwalks of 2022, that’s for sure. Metallic accents add a whole new dimension to any makeup look, giving you a glamorous, sexy look that will turn heads.

Whether you opt for full metallic eyeshadow to get the maximum impact or simply add a little metallic liner to your lower lash line, you’ll love how it elevates your date night look.

#5. A Pop Of Colour

Add some fun to your next date night with a playful pop of colour, courtesy of a bold lip or eyeshadow. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to colour, so experiment with different options to find a combination that speaks to you.

Bright, colourful shadow is the style du jour, thanks to the TV show, Euphoria, popularising a return to bold makeup. Or, if you prefer to keep your lids fairly simple, go wild with your lipstick - a pillar box red will never go out of style.

The most beautiful thing a woman can wear is confidence, so express yourself as only you know how, using the hues and shades that bring a smile to your face.

And remember, ladies, date night is about making yourself feel amazing. So worry less about looking good for him (or her) and more about feeling fabulous.
